Story of my Grandmother: "A Matriarch Marks a Milestone"

In the August issue of "American Funeral Director", my grandmother was featured for her accomplishments and contributions to the funeral industry in connection with her 80th birthday!

Born in a small coal mining town right outside Scranton, Pennsylvania she began working at Casket Shells, Inc. She eventually met her then customer and later late husband, Carl C. Thacker, owner of Old Dominion Casket Company. She married Carl at 10 am in the morning of March 6, 1959 and reported to work with him at 2pm so that he could meet with a customer. She was a pioneer as one of the only female owners of casket company of the time.

Today she stands as the matriarch of our business - still working in the business every day. She has paved the path for her son, CJ Thacker and three grandchildren - Danielle, Justin and Sara Thacker.
